Installing TAP® Pest Control Insulation is an innovative pest management service offered by pest control and wildlife professionals nationwide. Within the installation process, however, there are a few key steps that must be followed. One being the Three Inch Rule.

The Code of Federal Regulations States that all insulation must be kept at least three inches away from the sides of recessed light fixtures. Refrain from placing insulation directly over such fixtures so as to entrap heat. Also, keep insulation away from exhaust flues of furnaces and chimneys, water or space heaters, attic or whole-house fans as well as other heat-producing devices.

To be sure that insulation is kept away from light fixtures and flues, use a barrier, such as a recessed light cover to permanently maintain clearance around these areas.Check with local building or fire officials for guidance on additional installation and barrier requirements.

Remember, the active ingredient in TAP® Pest Control Insulation, Orthoboric Acid, which provides the insulation’s pesticide qualities, also provides an added benefit of a flame retardant. However, as professionals serving amazing customers and building those trusted relationships our industry is known for, precautions are always a wise move.
